Pediatric dentists are dedicated to the oral health of infants and children from their infancy through the teen years.
Kids begin to get their baby teeth during the first 6 months of life. By age 6 or 7 years, they start to lose their first set of teeth, which eventually are replaced by secondary, permanent teeth. It is extremely important to take care of the young teeth as they are extremely sensitive. Without proper dental care, children face possible oral decay and disease that can cause a lifetime of pain and complications. Today, early childhood dental caries—an infectious disease—is 5 times more common in children than asthma and 7 times more common than hay fever.
From the time your child is born, there are things you can do to promote healthy teeth and prevent cavities. For babies, you should clean teeth with a soft, clean cloth or baby's toothbrush. Avoid putting the baby to bed with a bottle and check teeth regularly for spots or stains.
It is generally recommended that a child visits a dentist by the age of 1 or within 6 months after his or her first tooth comes in.
Some tips for your child's happy dental experience:
1. Start brushing your baby's teeth as soon as the first milk tooth breaks through.
2. Parents should brush or supervise toothbrushing.
3. Brush teeth twice daily for about 2 minutes.
4. Brushingg should be the last thing to do at night before bed.
5. Use only a smear of toothpaste.
6. Make sure children don't eat or lick the toothpaste.
Kids always need the best dentist for oral health care or braces.
